Charisma News

I recently read a handout from a conservative Christian college's psychology class likening sending someone with eating disorders to a eating disorder clinic to sending someone with a pornography problem to a pornography clinic. In so many words, it set up vomiting as a sin to be rebuked from Scripture like pornography. It was stunning to read, and my heart immediately ached for those struggling through very real mental health issues who were shamed away from secular medical intervention at that college. Though much good progress has been made on mental health issues and the believer by way of organizations...

It's a story you've likely heard thousands of times, but how much do you really know about the magi? Who were the magi? Why were these non-Jews interested in the fulfillment of Jewish prophecy? What about the sign of the star? Hal Lindsey dives into these questions and more in order to reveal the truth behind one of Christmas' most lasting mysteries.

WASHINGTON D.C. (Worthy News)– President Obama announced sweeping changes to U.S. policy with Cuba on Wednesday, moving to normalize relations with the island nation and tear down the last remaining pillar of the Cold War, the Washington Post reported. Under the new measures, the United States plans to reopen its embassy in Havana and significantly ease restrictions on travel and commerce within the next several weeks and months, Obama said. Speaking from the White House, he declared that a half-century of isolation of the communist country "has not worked." "It's time for a new approach," he said. The history-shaping overtures come after more...

By Joseph DeCaro, Worthy News Correspondent LANSING (Worthy News)– The Michigan House of Representatives has approved a state version of the federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act despite claims that the bill will give license for religious discrimination, according to Christian News. The proposed statue states: "The free exercise of religion is an inherent, fundamental, and unalienable right secured by Article 1 of the state Constitution of 1963 and the First Amendment to the United States Constitution." Many understand that these rights are not granted by government, or the Constitution, but by God himself. The bill is modeled on the federal RFRA, which was...

By Joseph DeCaro ANKARA (Worthy News)– A lawyer in Diyarbakir estimated that land grabs have targeted thousands of Christians and Yazidis in southeastern Turkey, according to Al-Monitor. They have even threatened the Yazidis if they try to return, Serhat Karasin told Al-Monitor. Problems with property ownership were triggered by Turkey's modernization of its land registry records at a time when many Christians, Yazidis and Kurds were living in European exile after fleeing the Kurdish conflict. Many of them lost their property to the Turkish treasury, which is entitled to confiscate any land after it was fallow for 20 years. A commission of legal experts...

By Joseph DeCaro, Worthy News Correspondent PIEDMONT (Worthy News)– Not surprisingly, atheists were angered by an Alabama town's "Keep Christ In Christmas" theme for its annual Christmas parade, according to The Inquisitr News. Although Piedmont wanted to remind everyone about the reason for the season, the town's theme was opposed by the secular Freedom From Religion Foundation. On Nov. 24, the Wisconsin-based atheists reportedly sent a letter to Piedmont officials requesting the theme of the parade be changed because it wasn't appropriate for a secular celebration. But Piedmont Mayor Bill Baker disagreed. "It was a great theme," he said. "It's a small town. It's...
